What a prompt actually is

A prompt is just a sentence you send to Claude. The shell doesn't care about grammar, but specificity is the lever, vague prompts return vague edits, and concrete prompts return concrete diffs you can read.

Try the command on the right. Then change the file path and run it again. That's the whole job, and the next 33 lessons are variations on that loop.

Built with the people who were scared of the terminal.

FirstPrompt is in early access. These are notes from the people testing it, shared by role instead of made-up names, while the first public cohort gets going.

“ I'd avoided the terminal for years. Every tutorial just assumed I already knew the basics. Here I ran my first real command in about a minute, right in the browser. No install, no panic.

Product designer

Day-one beginner

“ Honestly the daily streak is what got me. Half an hour after dinner, and by week three I had a landing page I was actually proud to send people.

Marketing lead

Never opened a shell before

“ The code review on every submission felt like sitting next to someone really patient. It caught stuff a video course would never have bothered to tell me.

faq

Questions, answered.

Everything you need to know about the course, the sandbox, the cert, and the money.

No. Module 1 starts at zero — you'll open a terminal for the first time and install Claude Code, step by step. Windows, macOS and Linux are all first-class; most of our learners are on Windows, and Claude Code installs natively there with no WSL required.

A computer (Windows 10 or later, macOS 13+, or Linux) and a paid Claude plan. Claude Code needs a Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise account — Anthropic's free plan does not include it. That's separate from what you pay us, so budget for both. You'll install Claude Code on your own computer — it's one command and takes a couple of minutes. The browser sandbox lets you practise the first commands before you install anything.

FirstPrompt isn't affiliated with Anthropic. We teach Claude Code because it's the best tool we've used for shipping fast. If you subscribe to Claude Pro through our link we earn an affiliate commission — you're free to subscribe directly instead, and it costs you the same either way.

Less than you'd think. The Claude Code track is 40 bite-size lessons — about 70 minutes of reading — plus sandbox practice and module checkpoints; Cowork is 32 lessons, about 2 hours of reading. Most people spread it over short daily sessions (the streak system rewards small wins), but nothing stops you from finishing a module in an evening.

Yes, shipping is the whole point. Every module ends by deploying something live, starting with a terminal cheatsheet on day one and building up through refactors and multi-file projects. The capstone (a real SaaS-style app with auth, payments, and a database) is the final module of the Claude Code track, and all three courses are fully available now.

30 days, no questions. If you've done the work and it's not for you, tell us via the portal and we'll refund the same day.

It matters as much as your work does. The cert page is public, indexed, and links to the projects you shipped. Recruiters click that. Some don't. We don't promise jobs, only the receipt of doing the work.
