Build the internal audit checklist from the standard and your procedures
Name the process to audit. Claude reads your procedures for it, the clauses of the standard that apply and last year's findings, and writes the checklist: what to ask, what evidence to look at and which records to sample.

Where things are in Claude
- CustomizeConnectors In Claude's left sidebar: connect your email and files.
- /schedule Type it in a new Cowork task to run a prompt on a schedule.
- Scheduled In Claude's left sidebar: what runs, to pause or change it.
- Once for the whole company: your Microsoft admin approves Claude's Microsoft 365 connector and turns on its write tools, so Claude can save drafts and files. If connecting asks for an admin's approval, this is still to do: send them this step.
- Put the procedures and forms of each process in an Audits folder inside your Quality folder, with the clause list of your standard (ISO 9001, IATF 16949 or both) and last year's audit report and actions.
- In Cowork, connect your Quality folder in OneDrive or SharePoint (the one synced to this computer).
- Open Cowork, paste the prompt and name the process, the audit date and the auditor.
- The auditor reads it before the audit and adds their own questions. Claude writes the questions; the auditor decides what conforms. Afterwards, the audit actions workflow turns the findings into an action list.
Set this up on your computer: the Claude desktop app runs it.
The prompt
- Build the internal audit checklist for the process I name below, from the procedures, the clause list and last year's audit in the Audits folder inside my Quality folder. Write it as a new Word document in the Audits folder.
- 1. Start with last year's findings and open actions for this process: for each, what to look at to see that it is closed and stayed closed.
- 2. Then the questions, in the order the process runs. Tie each to the clause of the standard and the procedure section it checks. Refer to a clause by its number and one line in your own words: do not copy the standard's text.
- 3. For each question, say what evidence to look at (which record, form, screen or place on the shop floor) and what the procedure says it should show.
- 4. Say how many records to sample, 5 per question unless the record is rare, and how to pick them: spread over the whole period since the last audit, from different shifts and months, plus one known problem case where the records show one. The auditor picks the samples, not the people being audited.
- 5. Add questions that compare the procedure with what really happens: ask to be shown, not told.
- 6. Leave columns for the auditor: evidence seen (record numbers and dates), result (conforms, minor, major, opportunity for improvement), notes.
- 7. If the auditor I named works in this process, say so at the top: no one audits their own work.
- Use only the clauses, procedures and records in the folder. Where a clause applies but no procedure covers it, add it as a question and write [MISSING: procedure].
What you get
A checklist for the process with every question tied to a clause and a procedure, the records to sample and how to pick them, last year's findings to follow up first, and columns for what the auditor saw.
