Write the shift handover from the operators' notes
Near the end of a shift, give Claude what the operators wrote. It writes one page for the next shift lead: what is running, what is down, what is on hold and what is still open.

Where things are in Claude
- CustomizeConnectors In Claude's left sidebar: connect your email and files.
- /schedule Type it in a new Cowork task to run a prompt on a schedule.
- Scheduled In Claude's left sidebar: what runs, to pause or change it.
- Connect Google Drive under CustomizeConnectors. Keep this workflow's files in one Drive folder called Production.
- Keep each handover in a Handover folder inside your Production folder, so Claude can carry over what the last one left open.
- Near the end of each shift, open Cowork, paste the prompt and add the operators' notes, typed or as a photo of the handover book.
- Read it with the outgoing shift lead, fix anything wrong, then print it or share it with the next shift.
Set this up on your computer: the Claude desktop app runs it.
The prompt
- Write the shift handover from the operators' notes I gave you, and the last handover in the Handover folder inside my Production folder. Write it as a Google Doc in that folder, named with today's date and the shift.
- 1. Start with safety and quality: any near miss, injury or unsafe condition, and every part, lot or batch on hold, with where it is and why.
- 2. Then one block per machine or line: what is running (part number, order and lot), the quantity done against the shift's target, what stopped it and for how long, what was done and who was called, and whether it runs now.
- 3. Machines that are down: why, who is on it, what we are waiting for (a spare part, maintenance, a decision), and anything the next shift must not do, such as restarting before maintenance has signed it off.
- 4. Material and tools: what is about to run out, what was asked for and from whom.
- 5. Open jobs for the next shift, each with who asked and by when.
- 6. Every item still open in the last handover that today's notes do not close: carry it over as "still open from the last shift". Never drop one.
- Keep it to one page of short lines a shift lead reads in two minutes. Use only what the notes say. Where a note is unclear, write [CHECK with the outgoing shift: what] instead of guessing.
What you get
A one-page handover by machine, with safety and quality holds first and every item the last handover left open carried over until someone closes it.
