Connecting your folders
4 min read·Lesson 1 of Workspace and memory
Cowork can read, edit, and create real files on your computer — but only where you let it. It doesn't roam your whole drive. Instead, you connect specific folders, and everything Cowork does with files happens inside those folders.
Access is folder-scoped and you grant it. When a task needs to touch files, you point Cowork at a folder and give permission. From then on it can work there: opening a spreadsheet, drafting a document, saving output. Outside the folders you've connected, it simply can't see your files.
